UPDATE from Monday Planning Commission Meeting on Monday 08/21:
First, thank you for the very supportive turnout. YOUR PRESENCE MADE AN IMPACT. And we owe thanks to Rick Parker (Third Filing), our HOA Board Treasurer, for his excellent delivery of our messaging. The Planning Commission, upon receiving the emails, letters, and verbal testimony at the Monday evening meeting, voted to not support the McWhinney Annexation plan for the property south of Frank road (reasons included the density request of the project, increased traffic issues, etc). This is in our favor. This result will be put on record and submitted to the City Council for their consideration.
This is just the beginning though, we still have hurdles to overcome.
The City Council does not have to accept the recommendation of the Planning Commission, and in fact many times in recent history the City Council has disregarded the Planning Commission recommendations entirely and voted to support such proposals. This is why it is now critically important that you continue your email campaigns to the City Council and attend the next upcoming City Council Meeting. We cannot sit back after having won the first battle, else we will lose the war.
Call to Action:
1. Plan to attend the next City Council Meeting (expected to address this topic): Tuesday September 19th, 6:00pm
2. Please draft and send emails to the City Council with your concerns.
Personal feelings and short narratives are valuable to the City Council Representatives. For recap, here are the areas of concern that Rick addressed at the Planning Commission meeting:
1. Increased Traffic
2. Safety Concerns
3. Zoning Continuity
4. Contrary to the existing Community Plan
5. Quality of Life in our Existing Neighborhood
